Advanced Technology
Microtechnology-based Energy and Chemical Systems involve the miniaturization of devices that deal with heat transfer, mass transfer
and fluidic processes.
Commericalization Support:

In addition to our
own internal expertise, HD+ is heavily supported
by a strong network
of organizations dedicated to advancing micro
and nano scale technologies.

HD+ has the exclusive advantage of being able to apply advanced MECS technology to hemodialysis.

This technology, originally co-invented by Dr. Kevin Drost, Director of the Center for Microtechnology-based Energy, Chemical & Biological Systems will allow the HD+ system to be highly efficient, producing better treatment results within a smaller sized unit.  Because the size of the dialyzer and water pasteurizer are both dramactically reduced, the overall system shrinks in size.

HD+ Advantage: MECS Water Treatment Pasteurization

  • Meets AAMI Microbiological Standard for infusible dialysate
  • All purification components contained within the system for portability
  • Dialysate is prepared real time from tap water, not batched

HD+ Advantage: MECS Dialyzer

  • Significant reduction in the amount of dialysate needed, leading to a smaller and more portable dialysis machine
  • Same membrane as in current dialyzers with highly optimized diffusion characteristics
  • Less blood damage due to reduced exposure to foreign materials and lower mechanical stress
  • Small priming volume (>20 ml) is optimal for pediatric and acute care

HD+ Advantage: Dialysate Mixing

  • Dialysate concentrates contained in a single, easy to handle, portable cartridge
  • Dialysate prepared real time using bicarbonate based dialysate instead of lactate for a significant clinical advantages
  • Core patented technology for proportioning module licensed
